We live in Vegas and decided to do a one night Staycation at The Plaza during NFR. The booking process went well and I received a confirmation with the fees including the Resort fee. The Plaza was renovated a few years ago and we wanted to check it out. The casino area looks as tired and worn to me as it ever did. The staffing at the front desk while not rude was less than personable and welcoming. We were just more faces in an 8 hour shift. The agent informed me of the Resort fee which was considerably higher than listed on my confirmation. When I mentioned this to her I was told I would have to provide it in writing. I did and she seemed irked I was able to do so and said she would have to adjust the billing. I then advised we would be checking out very early the next morning and was told to leave the key in the room. Something I never do, I always check out in person.
Our room was very pleasant. Great size and nice furnishings. The bathroom area has a basin sink on a large vanity and a very big space for clothes and suitcases. The business part of the bathroom is a different story. The tub and toilet are housed together in a space so small you have to go completely in and turn sideways to be able to shut the door. The door misses the toilet by a fraction of an inch. A smaller vanity or closet area would have given some much needed space in the tub/toilet area.
We left very early the next morning leaving the key in the room as instructed. When we exited the elevator I did not notice an extension cord across the doorway and nearly fell flat on my face. The cord seemed to go 1/2 across the casino to someone vacuuming. Please tell me there is more than one outlet in the whole casino. Why wasn’t there cones or something placed to notify guests or employees of the cord?
So even up to now this has been a pretty ok inexpensive night away from home. Then I reviewed my charge card statement for the month. I was charged an extra fee to The Plaza. After about 20 minutes and a couple of departments it was determined that housekeeping had marked the room occupied for the second night. Upon consultation with a Manager they finally agreed we left early and the room fee was reversed. NFR (National Finals Rode) is a big event in Vegas. I am hoping this was truly just an oversight and not an attempt to pad some fees.
