This is our 4th stay at the Nugget, the first time paying resort fees, which quickly add up. The fee is supposed two include 2 bottles of water (sold 2 for $1 @ ABC store, internet (which downloaded erratically as I did not receive an important email until we were in the airport, a newspaper, which are all gone if you rise late, and printing of boarding pass, which is done at guest services beside check-in desk – the only part of the fee I found worthwhile).
We did get a great promo rate that included show tickets and 2 for 1 breakfast, as well as some other coupons that we did not use. As we are seniors on a budget, we only ever stay in Carson tower. We received the king bed room on a non-smoking floor as requested. On the topic of smoking, I agree with the person who said smoking should be banned from all areas of the hotel except casinos and bars. As a non-smoker, I resent returning home with a smoker’s cough.
Our room was very clean, including the carpet. I had no hesitation walking barefoot. The room was at the back of the building so relatively quiet (except for sirens), the mattress and pillows were very comfy too. No bathrobes in our room in spite of being advertised on line, but as we didn’t use the pool, it was not that important.
We love the Nugget for its downtown location within close proximity to other casinos and restaurants. We are able to use public transit to venture further as the buses stop right outside the main casino door.
This trip we spent checking out other downtown hotel options and we were very impressed with the Downtown Grand hotel. Staff there were very friendly so we might stay there on our next trip to LAS if the price is right.
Warning to parents that there is a lot of risque sights on Fremont St. so this is not a great area for kids. Go to Disneyland instead!
