Check in was relatively fast and I was surprised at how many people where there midweek. I stayed in room 2146 with my dad. The room was plenty big with two beds and a nice flat screen television. The bathroom and room in general were clean.
Other positives to the room are there is a safe with key (not combination) and a refrigerator at no additional cost. The bed was very comfortable and the AC worked quite well.
The casino itself was busy, but not crowded and gets quiet fairly early because it is not directly on the Fremont Street Experience. I must say cocktail service was on point both at the slots and at the machines, and the waitresses were very polite. The gaming itself was decent. I didn’t win big, but the machines were loose enough to allow for ample play and bonuses were relatively frequent on the slots.
I had a Hawaiian shaved ice at Lapert’s ice cream on the 2nd floor and it was very good. I’m not sure how many ice cream cones my dad had, but he sure did enjoy the ice cream there. We also ate at the 24 hour food cafe and the food was actually good. You can’t beat their prime rib special for $9.99.
Also, the California aka the Cal caters to Hawaiians. I saw other reviews complain about this, but I really enjoyed gambling with our brothers and sisters from the islands. They were all extremely nice and fun to play with at the tables.
Would I stay again? Heck yes I will. Who woulda thought you can enjoy a small piece of Hawaii in Vegas!!!
